What are ‘maritime contracts?’
As stated above, maritime contracts are all contracts that relate to the navigation, business or commerce of the sea. However, it is frequently difficult without research to determine what type of contracts is considered maritime. Contracts to repair vessels are maritime contracts, but contracts for the construction of new vessels are not. Likewise, contracts for the sale and purchase of vessels are not maritime contracts. However, marine insurance policies are maritime contracts.
