Can the government be held responsible for an aviation accident?

The government can be sued for the negligence of its own employees, but only under certain circumstances and only if certain procedures are followed. Lawsuits against the federal government are allowed under the Federal Tort Claims Act. Lawsuits have been filed in the past against the federal government in aviation cases, usually having to do with failures in safety measures leading to accidents. Lawsuits against the government are best handled by an experienced aviation attorney because the rules for filing such suits are complicated.
