How soon must I file a medical malpractice lawsuit?

Medical malpractice lawsuits must be brought within a given period of time. Those time periods—known as statutes of limitation—are not negotiable. Deadlines for filing lawsuits differ from state to state, and may be as short as one year. The deadlines are usually longer when a minor is injured.

Making sure that you file your suit on time is one of the major reasons to consult an experienced medical malpractice lawyer early on. Many will offer free initial consultations.
