Property Tax Law
  All States
My taxes are outrageously high compared to good neighbor waldo and I want a reduction now. What are some of the more common grounds I can challenge my tax bill?

There are a wide variety of reasons for which you can appeal your assessment. Generally, the root problem in most cases is the manner in which the assessor has valued your property for tax purposes.

The more basic errors that can crop up include, for example,

(1) arithmetic errors in the tax records,

(2) discrepancies between the description of your home and what is on the records (you may own a one-story house but be taxed for a two-story house)

(3) the age of your residence may be grossly incorrect,

(4) wrong owner,

(5) the measurements for your home and lot may be wrong,

(6) you failed to be given an exemption to which you are entitled,

(7) improper classification (classified as commercial when it is actually residential)
